mixed media extravaganza on 4X4″ canvases
Oh how I love to experiment! So I’ve been indulging myself lately. In particular, trying out my acrylic mediums in new ways, inspired by, at the moment, Lisa Cyr, mixed media artist/teacher whose on line course, “Within the Layers: Inspirational Mixed Media Techniques” I’m taking through Artistsnetworkuniversity.com Lisa is the author of two books, Art Revolution and Experimental Painting.
Above are some beginnings on small canvases which give me a chance to try out ideas without spending a lot of time on each one. I’m going for a kind of antique patina and organic feel, maybe even buried treasure reclaimed by the earth and time.
handmade stamp debossed into wet texture paste, dried and glazed with acrylics
I love the fossil-y look created here with a bit of decalcomanie to add interest.
The above two pieces were developed with further glazes after the initial ones in the first picture. I felt like an archeologist uncovering treasured remains!
These are just great.!

Really dark and moody but oh so cool! I can see why they feel like fossils. You close up is so wet and juicy, but further away looks more dried. How does this book compare to “Acrylic Revolution”?

Acrylic Revolution features different mixed media artists whereas Experimental Painting is about Lisa Cyr’s work with some step by step demos and overviews of approaches taken by contemporary mixed media artists. She is very much an illustrator so many of the techniques are driven by that.
