“Amulet” acrylic on canvas, 24″ X 24″, painted by Suzanne Edminster and Susan Cornelis
Suzanne and I have so enjoyed the response we’ve gotten from visitors at the Four Hands Painting: The Golden Thread show at Sebastopol Center for the Arts! The paintings were done together from conceptualizing to hands on painting and finishing. This has raised a lot of questions in viewers, questions like “what about the artist ego?” and “how did you decide you were finished?” and lots more.
Suzanne and I love to talk about our experience. We learned so much about ourselves and each other as artists, and yes, we are still friends! And we would like to share what we’ve learned about painting, collaboration, and maybe even friendship, in an artist talk this Saturday, November 8, 1:30-2:30 in the gallery at Sebastopol Center for the Arts, 282 High St., Sebastopol. You can see the exhibit which includes our “Golden Thread” mixed media paintings, an installation of guilded pages from our journal, a video of us creating a painting together, and portraits we did of each other. Actually, I think I’ll share those here!

Suzanne by Susan
These paintings became our presents to each other and my portrait by Suzanne will hang in my studio after the show. Even those these portraits were done by one person only, they were done simultaneously and with shared intent.
