Maelstrom

dreamcatcher

“Dream Catcher” ink, acrylic, gesso, collage, image transfer, gold leaf on canvas, 24″ X 24″

This new series of paintings has a swirling movement to it, a maelstrom, whirlpool, vortex. . .the energy of planets, the pull of family and society, inner worlds and outer.  A feeling of pulling apart and reordering where the notion of gravity is lost, and up and down become less relevant.  The process of painting mirrors this, repeatedly introducing chaos and randomness, then a pulling back into structure.

It all starts with my favorite these days, which is painting with fingers, smearing and scraping pigment around on the canvas, drawing with ink – not things, but movements I feel. That’s the easy part.  The “what’s next” is harder. The finishing takes days and weeks of waiting for the next step, the final step to manifest.

More on the way. . .
