Side by Side Four Hands Painting

One of the scenes of the collaboration between Suzanne Edminster and myself, in her Saltwork Studio. . . side by side two red headed Suzan’s painting, sharing thoughts, switching the canvases to combine their visions, their wild hunches, and most of all, their passion for painting.  The paintings keep morphing until they are jointly declared done!

And now, though the collaboration will be ongoing, there’s a whole wall of our joint paintings on exhibit at the Phantom IV Gallery in Windsor, CA. this month along with some of our individually created works.  It looks like a show of three guest artists rather than two, and indeed it is.

I have some video footage of us painting and will share it as soon as I have time to get it off the Flip camera, edit it and get it on the blog!  To watch Suzanne paint. . .she is “out of the box”, all passion and movement and wild energy, covering the canvas with distinctive color and shapes and line.  Susan (me) is a bit more contemplative, employing brushes perhaps a bit more often, softening, designing.  But then our energies start mixing and soon I’m in there with big strokes of color applied by hand, and she’s softening edges.  Because of course we both embody all of these various art muses who seek their entertainment by joining us in the studio.

I’ll be sharing some of the paintings on the blog this week and you can see some on Suzanne’s blog and read more about our process there.  I hope you will stop by the gallery to see for yourself March 2-April 1.  The Phantom Gallery is at 9077 Windsor Road, Windsor Town Green, CA and is open 12-6pm Thursday – Sunday.  And Suzanne and I hope you can join us this Saturday March 10, 4:30-7:30pm for the opening reception and 2nd Saturday Art Walk (there are 4 other galleries and lots of great art to see within a block of the gallery).  Here’s the flyer invitation. . .hope to see you there!
