A Genie Comes

acrylic, ink and dark wash pencil on w/c paper, 11 X 15′

I picked up this abstract painting start this morning and saw the face and then the figure with a sword.  What followed was an uncomfortable feeling that some spirit, a genie in the pot perhaps, would soon be challenging some tidy notions I’ve held onto.  Just a feeling, mind you.  Just enough to ask myself to loosen my grip, be ready to jump ship, pull out my sword, stay agile, listen to the voice in the wind.  The word OPEN kept resounding.  Stay open.  The only way to stay safe and true.
