The Catch
Butterflies in the tummy herald the bounty of the catch
while the Muses haul it in. . .
On Sunday another Meeting with the Muses convened in my studio. This group comes together to absolutely indulge the creative spirit in a feast of art play and shared wisdom. In fact the energy generated by this confederacy of souls is so tangible that I found a flock of butterflies flitting wildly in my stomach before they arrived! And so, when I started to art-play i discovered a previously never used stamp, and as I painted it with watercolor and started using it on the piece, one of the Muses exclaimed “Your butterflies” and sure enough, there they were. And much happier to be on the paper than trapped in my stomach, to be sure. The cheesecloth started out as the sharing of a texture technique (you press it down on wet pigment to get an imprint) but when I found the picture of the fisherman, I realized a new connection! The Muses were harvesting the bounty of images from the inner realm, the deep and boundless sea. We were in fact so busy drawing up the catch that I got no other pictures (but I’m sure the Muses will send me some to post here)
Our invocation comes from a Native American prayer that goes like this (and you’re welcome to use it)
Sundancer, dance into the light
We give our whole being to open up our sight
That we might see the vision, every landscape unfold
That we might dance through the crack between the worlds.
You can see Isabelle’s dance through the crack between the worlds on her blog.
