Legs and the figure
May 4, 2008 by Susan Cornelis
Sketching Elizabeth on Thursday night, I found myself starting with her legs and torso in every quick sketch. THe only pose where I got more than that on the paper was the sitting pose! Since she seemed in fact to be all leg I asked her if she’s a dancer. Yes, and a former Las Vegas show girl! No wonder.
Curvy, sinewy, strong.
The straight lines of architecture - always a struggle for me. But the undulations of the human body, I love to draw.
If you want to have a look at a fresh new take on figure sketching, portraits actually, check out Miki’s new portrait blog

…and boy does it show Susan, you draw them so well. I love every last one of these.
You did a wonderful job! Your drawings show her dancer past extremely well.
At coming to your blog, I have felt the incredible freshness - wow, while viewing the blog, I saw the freshness of the wind outside my window - you gift the viewer not some shape but the outlook towards the world and do that without any hard musings.
Thank you- you gave me the real bath- I just enjoy the purity all around now
Thank you Tomas! And nice to “meet” you. I have been seeing your comments on Miki’s blog, and going to your blog I can see that we have a lot in common. I love your images but also your word pictures.
Wonderful, Susan, really, what a great model she is and what a great artist you are!
I will never forget my first reaction as I found your blog: the perfection of the figures lines! I don’t mean the model lines, I mean the drawings lines!
You are so great at that! Do the models see your sketches? If they do, they must be very happy about them!
And thanks to the link to my new portraits site…
Yes, the models always come around and look. And hopefully Elizabeth has made it to my blog since she’s asked to take a picture of my sketches and didn’t get to do that.
