Walter

Conte crayon and charcoal, 5 min poses

Sometimes you get a model who has so much soul that every pose captures something profound about the human condition. This describes Walter. You don’t have to search for a way to make an interesting drawing, but can just abandon yourself in the pose and the feeling it evokes.

charcoal

For the 10-20 minute poses I floated some inks and a bit of white gesso on the watercolor paper before the pose, then drew on it with charcoal, sometimes adding a bit of ink at the end.

Sometimes you’re on the “wrong” side of the model (we were arranged 360 degrees around the model) but there’s always something to draw.

The power of this pose just blew me away! The blind fold, the staff, the frown – it’s the image we’re assaulted with each day in the news.

Come back any time Walter!

    Wonderful!
And as you say, the last pose and the corresponding drawing is amazing! I wished I had been there too… fantastic technique too, your paintings.
